Book Cover Series Design: Capturing the “Magic” of AI
The inspiration for this iteration of covers came from the visual abstraction of smog coming from a which’s cauldron. The client wanted to capture the essence of Alchemy in the design, alluding to its parallels with AI.
This iteration employs similar techniques in the graduation of colors (with different colors depending on the content of the book in the series) and manipulation of typographic elements. In this iteration, Helvetica is used in all caps with tight spacing to create some mild distortion and give the title weight among the airiness of the gradient. This resulted in a cross in tone between sci-fi and technology.
Illustration Addressing Audience
The inspiration for the next iteration was taken from someone who aligns with the intended audience. I noticed a gravitation towards strong illustrative designs accompanying text within apparel and art.
This iteration went through many rounds of changes with an initial interest in creating the feeling of uncanny through overtly simple 3D renderings. Throughout the process, these illustrations became more simplified and striking in contrast, keeping all the designs in Black and white allowed for stronger illustration and title text distribution variations.
